York airport. Averaging approximately 110 daily flights, it offers nonstop
service to 18 cities. In 2006, the airport served more than five million
passengers, marking the third year in a row that the growth has exceeded the
national average. Airline carriers at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport

Northwest, Southwest, United and US Airways and its affiliates.
Best
Buying Buffalo
The Elmwood
district is located along the southern
portion of Elmwood Avenue. This area contains a variety of small shops with a
very 'independent' feel - you won't find national chain stores here. Used
books, specialty coffee, one of a kind fashions, organic and local produce,
artists' studios, and musical instrument shops line this commercial and
residential district. Bidwell Park where it meets Elmwood Avenue hosts a
farmers' market on Saturday Mornings from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
The Hertel
Avenue district, located along Hertel Avenue between Delaware Avenue and Parker
Avenue in North Buffalo is home to a wide assortment of shops as well. Art
stores, used bookstores, as well as eccentric independent stores like 'Terrapin
Station' dot the street that has seen a resurgence as in recent years. Hertel
is quickly becoming the new "in" strip in Buffalo.
The Allen
Street district can in some ways be considered an extension of the Elmwood
strip; however, it has a unique life of its own. Amidst the myriad of bars,
you'll see bookstores, studios, and even antiques along this well traveled
downtown strip.
Main Street
in the University Heights district is not known for its shopping as much as its
bars, but there are worthy places along this strip. The corner of Kenmore Ave.
and Main St. has a more suburban strip-mall style appearance along with some
more mainstream retailers like AJ Wright and Starbucks. Main Street has its
share of video, specialty, comic, and other second hand stores worth a look as
well.
Visitors
looking for a more mainstream shopping experience should check out the Walden
Galleria in Cheektowaga (10 minutes from downtown). The Walden Galleria has two
levels of shopping in the region's largest mall as well as a movie theater,
food court and several other low-priced restaurants. The smaller Boulevard Mall
on Niagara Falls Boulevard in Amherst is about 20 minutes from the city as
well. The Boulevard Mall is located along one of the area's busiest shopping
corridors on Niagara Falls where big box retailers like Target, Best Buy, and
Home Depot dot the landscape.
Near Airport
airport located in the town of Cheektowaga in Erie County, New York. The
airport is named after the Buffalo Niagara Falls Metro Region. The airport
serves Buffalo, New York as well as Southwest Ontario Canada (Private land
shuttle services make connections between Buffalo with Toronto Pearson
International Airport in Mississauga, Ontario and John C. Munro International
Airport in Hamilton, Ontario). It is the busiest airport in Upstate New York,
and the third busiest in New York State by number of boardings.

I decided once again to go
Christmas Shopping in Albany, NY which for me has become a tradition as I’ve
now been doing my Christmas shopping this way for 5 years and the trip has
gotten progressively bigger with each passing year. This year will be the first
year I have a rental car to use when I get to Albany. In planning the Amtrak
portion of the trip, I booked both tickets online via Amtrak.com with my AAA
discount. I would ride Empire Service trains both ways with Train #288 on
Sunday and return home on Train #283 on Tuesday. The total cost for both
tickets was $91.80.
I arrived at the Buffalo-Depew Amtrak Station around 3:30pm, our train was on time and set to leave Depew at 3:50pm. Train #288 only runs on Sundays and once it arrives in Albany, it is the final train of the day to New York. I parked and locked my car at the station and checked the status of the train. I then set up shop on the platform and had a quick conversation with a real estate agent who works for Canadian Pacific Railway. Train #288 arrived into Buffalo-Depew at 3:46pm. I quickly boarded Amfleet I Capstone Rebuild Coach #82588, a nice refurbished coach with the blue/green seats. I didn’t stay there long as after we passed the Lancaster Hot Box Detector, I set up my computer in the café car and had a nice conversation with the train crew, the Assistant Conductor on this trip also was the AC on this same trip for me from last year.
