History of Mesquite

The thriving city of Mesquite sits at the foot of the Virgin Mountains. Located 128km / 80mi north of Las Vegas, the city bills itself as a resort destination. There are many things to see around Mesquite including hiking, biking, horseback riding and desert exploration. Mesquite is close to Zion National Park and other national Parks of... More Southern Utah that are easily accessible off of Interstate 15.

You can tell a lot from a town by it's history.  What history does is give the town its character, its flavor and its identity.  I have talked about Mesquite before in modern terms.  Now, I'm going to give you insight into the heart of this city.  I think  you'll be surprised and pleased, that there is such a city in Nevada.  One that doesn't have all the crime and challenges of the other big city (and you know which one I'm talking about).  So, come with me now, and lets go back into the history of Mesquite, and when we're done, I bet you will have fallen in Love all over again!

Tourist Attractions in Mesquite

Virgin Valley Hertiage Museum
For a little more local history when visiting Mesquite, stop in at the Virgin Valley Heritage Museum. Here you will find a wonderful array of interesting displays detailing the life and times of the local area. A majority of the artifacts are from 1875 to 1935. The interesting building that houses the museum was built in 1940 and was at one time a hospital.

Skydive Mesquite
Skydive near Las Vegas. This is where people who know how to skydive come to jump! First time jumps, learn how to skydive, experienced skydivers, we do it all. Come jump at the drop zone in Nevada where real skydivers come to play.

Green Valley Health Spa
My friend and I treated ourselves, or so we thought, for a fun stay at Green Valley Spa and Tennis Resort this summer, in St. George, Utah. I scheduled five days and my friend scheduled 7 days. It is taking me this long to enter a review as I would have hoped Green Valley would have offerred me an apology or compensation for problems I encountered. They did neither and insultingly told me I could do nothing about it. As we paid $435.32 per day for lodging, food, and fitness classes, we expected good, operating facitities. To be brief: one pool was NOT heated as advertised, and the other only barely warmer than outside air; absolutely NO WATER (that includes toilets) from late evening until three P.M. the next day (we were told to go over to the public facilities which were across the compound, past the tennis courts, past the dining room...you get the picture. For myself, my lock did not work until the third day, when it still wasn't fixed, but at least they finally gave me a key to the back gate so I could at least go in without hunting all over the grounds for a housekeeper each time I wanted to enter my room.

Mesquite Wolf Creek Golf Club

The Wolf Creek Golf Club has beautiful course and clubhouse, but is very tough for the average golfer. My group of 10 golfers was very excited to play Wolf Creek as one of 6 courses over 4 days. While the views are spectactular, it's not really a golfer's golf course, in my opinion. Our group's handicaps range from 2 to 7, and to a man, we felt that the course didn't really lend itself to good golf.

The word "extreme" was the most common description of the course in our group. There are 3 or 4 really good holes at Wolf Creek, but the rest seem to be extreme for the sake of being extreme...which is fine. It's just not a place that's built to reward quality golf shots as much as treat the eyes and make you wonder how in the world they built the place! The biggest problem with playing here was the 6 1/2 hour round, likely due to the extreme setup of the course for the average golfer.
