Tourist Places in Rajkot

Modern Rajkot
Rajkot has a fine museum and some old colonial architecture. Handicrafts like silver and textiles are a highlight of Rajkot, which has the National Weaving Institute, working to promote traditional weaves. Rajkot is one of the most important commercial and industrial cities of Saurashtra. It is a very pleasant provincial town and is also district capital. Rajkot has become one of India's fastest growing middle rank cities, its population nearly doubling in the last 20 years. That growth has been based on a rapid industrialization, especially the processing of agricultural products such as groundnuts.

Rajkumar College
The British built the Rajkumar College for the education of princes of Indian state in 1870. It is still regarded as one of the best private institutions in the country.

Watson Museum
The Watson Museum & Library in the Jubilee Gardens commemorates Colonel John Watson, Political Agent from 1886-89. The entrance is flanked by two imperial lions and among the exhibits are copies of artefacts from Mohenjodaro, 13th century carvings, silverware, natural history exhibits and textiles as well as dioramas of local Tribal costumes and housing styles. Perhaps the most startling piece is a huge marble statue of Queen Victoria seated on a throne, decidedly not amused. The museum is open daily except Wednesday from 9 am to 12.30 pm and 1.30 to 5.30 pm; there's a small entry fee.

Watson Museum and Library
Located in the Jubilee Gardens, the Watson Museum and Library is a memorial dedicated to Colonel James Watson, who was a political agent of Saurashtra from 1886-89. Two imperial lions flank the entrance of the museum. Among the exhibits are copies of artefacts from Mohenjodaro, 13th-century carvings, temple statues, natural history exhibits, and dioramas of local tribal costumes and housing styles. There is a huge marble statue of Queen Victoria seated on a throne. Some other exhibits here are impressive collections of statues, silverware, textiles, ancient coins and rare books, which provide a glimpse of the cultural traditions of Saurashtra.

Best Season, Climate, and Clothing
The climate of Rajkot is generally pleasant. The summer season extends from March to June with daytime temperature reaching a high of around 42°C. The monsoons are from July to September. Rajkot experiences strong winds and heavy rain along with cyclonic storms in May and June. The best time to visit Rajkot is from October to February.
