History
of Napa
Situated at the southern end of the valley of the same
name, some 52mi/85km from San Francisco, Napa is one of the largest Californian
towns north of San Francisco. It was founded in 1848 and bears the name of the
long extinct Napa Indians. Today there are a number of

boundary is formed by the Napa Mountains. The Howell Mountains form the eastern
boundary of Napa County and they also protect the valley from storms. The valley is becoming more and more tourist-oriented (about 2.5 million

Blue Violet Mansion Bed & Breakfast
The
Blue Violet Mansion is a Queen Anne Victorian style mansion built in 1886. It
has been restored to retain period details such as old fireplaces, claw foot
tubs, balconies, soaring ceilings, and a grand staircase. It opened as a bed
and breakfast in 1991.
Copia The American Center for Food &
the Arts
Copia
explores the relationship between food and the arts through exhibitions,
programs, classes and demonstrations. Displays include food products, early
cooking utensils and kitchen gadgets. Organic gardens have seasonal plantings
of vegetables, herbs, fruits and flowers.
Carolyn Parr Museum of Natural History
At
3107 Browns Valley Road in Napa is the Carolyn Parr Museum of Natural History
in Napa.
First Presbyterian Church

First Presbyterian Church in Napa is a California registered landmark. It was
built in 1874 in Victorian Gothic style. The church contains some fine stained
glass imported from Belgium.
Hakusan Sake Gardens

situated on 22 acres amidst a Japanese Garden.

Napa County Historical Society has a small museum, an archive collection and an

Napa Firefighters Museum

Napa Firefighters Museum features a number of exhibits that will be of interest
to fire aficionados. There is a hand pumper, a steamer and a number of other
pieces of fire fighting equipment as well as photos.
Napa Municipal Golf Course

Napa Municipal Golf Course is a public facility on Strepalow Drive.
Silverado Resort
The
Silverado Country Club in Napa features two 18-hole golf courses, fine dining,
spa and fitness services, and a conference center.
